Ecofeminism is a social movement and philosophy that looks at the connections between nature and women. As a social movement that centers on the protection of nature, it is a movement led by decolonial and indigenous movements, primarily by women of colour activists. In theory, it considers how the oppression of women and the domination of nature are interlinked. Social movements such as the Chipko Andolan show that women globally have been protecting the environment for a long time

The Chipko movement highlights the power of environmental grassroots movements originating in the global South and how collective effort can create social change.

As individuals, we can actively challenge the values upheld by capitalist patriarchy such as hierarchical thinking, show reverence for nature, and supporting the liberation of all women.

It is clear that environmentalism and feminism are both conspicuous, contemporary issues that cannot be understated, and that gender discussion should be integrated into discussions about environmental reparation. Ecofeminism sees a critical connection between the two, as both having been caused by a result of patriarchy – and wants to say more than just that women are more affected by environmental damage.

The Feminist History Of Bicycles

It's time to delve into the history of this most feminist of machines. Yes, you read that correctly. 

In ways both explicit and subtle, the invention and popularization of the humble two-wheeled bicycle in the 19th century helped move the cause of female equality and freedom forward in the modern world;

The first bicycles were almost exclusively for men; Bicycles were, up until 1890s, considered masculine accessories.

People Saw The Bicycle As A Sexual ThreatBicycling didn't just give women a way to get around freely; it also, surprisingly, played a role in women's sexual liberation — purely because some people believed that if women went around straddling something, they would start having orgasms all over the place (which, needless to say, these people thought was a bad thing).

Bicycles Helped Women Shed Restrictive ClothingThe phenomenon of the bicycle also helped women get out of long, restrictive skirts — because while many of them were perfectly happy cycling decorously in ankle-skimmers, some found the practicalities rather unbearable. 

Bicycles Were Associated With The "New Woman" And Feminism
Bicycle-riding women were seen as exemplars of the New Woman, who didn't necessarily want to have children, be deprived of a career, or have no political voice, and were accordingly praised and/or browbeaten as such. 
Suffragettes Championed Bikes As Tools Of Liberation

Suffragettes embraced bicycles both symbolically and physically.
Bicycles were strongly in the firmament of feminism, and there they've stayed. 

 The late 19th and early 20th centuries were filled with caricatures of lady bicyclists doing such ridiculous things as smoking, rushing off to protests, or trying to get the vote, often while wearing masculine clothing and leaving their husbands at home with the baby.

So, take your bike out for a run, ladies;

 you and your forebears have earned it.

Recovery of the ozone layer due to bans on chemical substances

Today I want to talk about the recovery of the ozone layer. 35 years ago the Montreal Protocol was created to remove 96 chemicals that were causing a hole in the ozone layer. To know what we are talking about, the ozone layer is the area of the stratosphere that protects the Earth from ultraviolet rays. Latest reports confirms that the ozone layer is going to be fully recovered in 40 years. This document says that if current policies are still implemented, the ozone layer is expected to fully recover in the Arctic by 2045. Furthermore in 2066 the most damaged area (Antarctica) will recover completely. The scientific evaluation group confirms the positive impact of the Montreal Protocol, where in 2016 other substances such as hydrofluorocarbons were added, which are powerful greenhouse gasses but don't damage the ozone layer as much as chlorofluorocarbons. Personally, I believe that positive news helps us to realize that everything we do for the planet where we live pays off and that we must continue this wayto improve and never give up for a better planet for future generations. THE DIVINE MOVE At the end of 2022, after two years, was celebrated the COP15 in Montreal, Canada, where an agreement was signed by 195 different countries, but that document hasn’t changed and will not change anything. This fact is supported by Ecologistas en Acción, an organization of 300 groups all over Spain that really care about the environment. On their website, they have posted a piece of news about the inefficacy of this agreement, showing data that proves that our planet is dying and all of us with it. One of the data is the protection of 30% of natural areas, but the remaining 70% is not protected from poaching and people who don´t worry even if their forests were on fire. Another one is that scientists assert that we are on the sixth process of global animal extinction in world history, and if that wasn’t enough, the impacts are not regulated and the companies do whatever they want without any legal responsability. And the third one is that the early days before the COP15, in Egypt, a lot of citizens went out the streets to protest and many of them were arrested. Despite all of this, at least all the countries, that agreed on sign that document, had set up biodiversity global reserve zones to protect all the species, of which 3 of them disappear every hour.

Deforestation in the Brazilian Amazon increases 93% this year

Deforestation in the Amazon increased 93% between January and September of 2019 compared to last year

In the first nine months of the year, it lost 7,854 square kilometers of vegetation cover, and in September alone 1,447.4 square kilometers were cut.

Which is almost the double that in 2018.

The data used is from the Deter, which works with satellite images and INPE uses it to offer alerts about the areas that are being deforested.

Is being seen a trend on deforestation. los prosecutors of the Brazilian Institute of Environment will be alerted to the threatened places where they have to concentrate their activities.

Deforestation in the Brazilian Amazon has also coincided with the progress of fires in the region and has made the Brazilian Government a target of harsh criticism by organizations and foreign countries.

Information was released this Friday by the state National Institute of Space Research (INPE).
